YMCA offering ‘Pay the Day’ special: For those making a New Year’s resolution to get healthier, the YMCA is offering an incentive throughout January to help you on your journey. The Y will offer a “Pay the Day” special for anyone joining the Y in the first month of 2017. New members who join the Y on Jan. 1 will pay a $1 joining fee plus first month’s dues; a $2 joining fee on Jan. 2; a $3 joining fee on Jan. 3; and so on throughout the month. First month’s dues are required at signing. This is a savings on the Y’s regular joining fee, which is $50 for an adult or family membership or $25 for a senior or young adult membership. The Y will be open on New Year’s Day from 12 p.m.-3 p.m. and will resume regular business hours on Jan. 2. Call (859) 987-1395 for more information.
Parent/Child Fitness: Now you and your child can get fit together! Have you been looking for a way to get your child moving? Why not get active together? In this class we will be doing fun games to keep both the parent and child entertained. Children ages 6-10. Time/Date: 5:30 p.m., Mondays, beginning January 2. The YMCA offers youth and adult swim lessons year round. The classes range in levels and varieties to include parent-child as well as youth and adult swim lessons. Family Karate Class: These classes are taught by Master Larry Mattox, a 6th-degree black belt. Master Larry has 40 years of martial arts experience and has been teaching for 39 years. Besides excellent self-defense, karate will teach you discipline, respect, coordination and help you build self-confidence. This 12-week session is for ages 6-adult. Time/Dates: 10:15-11:15 a.m., Saturdays, January 7-March 25. Fee: Member: $100; non-member: $125. (10 person minimum, sign up by January 5).
Women’s Self Defense Classes: These classes are taught by Master Larry Mattox, a 6th-degree black belt. Master Larry has 40 years of martial arts experience and has been teaching for 39 years. This 6 week class is designed for any female to escape any attack that may happen. It includes hands-on introduction to self-defense, blocks, strikes, kicks, grappling & ground fighting. Self-defense strategies & tactics as well as laws relative to self-defense and use of force. Comfortable training clothes required. This class is encouraged for high school students and adults. Early class registration is required by January 5. Time/Date: 11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m., Saturdays, January 7 – February 11. Fee: $50 for members; $60 for non-members.
Little Dribblers: A non-competitive introduction to basketball for kids 3 to 5 years old. This program is designed to teach basic basketball skills. Teamwork and sportsmanship are also taught. There will be six instructional classes in our gym. No games will be played. A t-shirt is given to each participant. Time/Date: 5:30 – 6:15 p.m., Mondays, January 9 – February 13. Fee: $30 – members; $45 – non-members.
Friday Family Flicks: Join the Y for an evening of Friday Family Flicks. We will show a free, family-friendly movie on a big projector screen in the gym. The Y will provide the popcorn, and guests are invited to bring a picnic, snacks and cap-sealed drinks. There will be floor seating so feel free to bring a blanket or pillow to relax on. Children may come in their pajamas if they wish. An adult must remain with children during the movie. Watch for movie titles to be released one week prior to the event. Time/Date: 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Friday January 27. Free and open to the public.
